On Time Plumbers completed a hot water tank isolation in NW6 after corrosion was found on the tank. The system was made safe to help prevent leaks, water damage, and further plumbing problems.
The property owner in NW6 noticed corrosion on a hot water tank and we were called out to carry out an isolation job on the tank. If a hot water tank is left in the water system, it can pose a major plumbing hazard if it is corroded. Can cause leaks, water damage, inadequate hot water and even failure in some instances.
Our Plumber attended the premises, took a look at the hot water tank and agreed it was best to isolate the tank at this time. The water supply was carefully isolated from the tank to minimize further damages and contain water from leaking into the building.
Corrosions were visible on the hot water tank, indicating that the metal used to make the tank had started to deteriorate. Often corrosion is due to aging, exposure to the water, internal corrosion, poor maintenance, or pressure problems in the plumbing system.
If a hot water tank develops some corrosion, it shouldn’t be overlooked. A trickle at the bottom can escalate to a flood with the pressure applied in a tank. For this NW6 property, the best course of action was to isolate the tank and to discontinue its operation in an unsafe condition.
Our plumbing engineer carried out a careful inspection and completed the hot water tank isolation safely and professionally. The work included:
Hot Water Tank Inspection of Corroded Surface
Inspecting pipework and connections around the area
Cutting off the water supply to the tank
* Making the system safe to help prevent leaks
Providing guidance on further actions
* Returning to the work area clean and secure
The work was done with care and the premises were kept safe all the way.
Isolation of a hot water tank is sometimes necessary due to damage, corrosion, leakage or when the tank is considered unsafe for continued use. In this instance, the corrosion compromised the safety of the tank’s continued function.
We isolated the tank to minimise potential loss of water to the property. This also provided the customer with time to consider what to do next – for example, replacing the hot water tank or additional plumbing repair work.
The following are the common symptoms of a corroded hot water tank:
Rust or Corrosion on the Tank Body
Water stains around tank
– wet spots around the cylinder or pipework
The hot water pressure is low.
* Discoloured hot water
If there are sounds coming out of the tank that are unusual, you should check it out.
Any small leakages around valves or joints
The tank is old, worn or damaged looking
If rust or corrosion is visible on your hot water tank, it’s best to contact a professional plumber before it becomes a crisis.
